Thor in hospital
Yesterday morning while on a ride, Mike was hit by a car and thrown to the side of the road. He's doing o.k. and stable in the hospital where I saw him last night. He has a fractured fibula and L2 & L3 vertebrates. He had an MRI early this morning that should give more details to the extent of potential injury to the tendons surrounding L2 & L3. He has good spirits as he mentioned he had two things this morning: his breakfast sandwich and more dilaudid. Briegh, Mike's Mom and Brother were there last night and all doing o.k. Jess is headed there this morning/afternoon and I'll surely be headed back up after I'm done work at the bike shop today.
To see Mike smiling last night and joking around was amazing. Surely, to have avoided another tragedy like Cindy's is nothing short of remarkable. Please think of Mike and pray for recovery and good health. What an amazing son, husband, father, and friend Mike is.

just a month away.....
Finally, a blog entry.....
Cindy has been more and more on my mind, maybe because I know she'd be starting to fine tune for the ITU Worlds Du..... a month from today on September 26 I'll have finished that Du and surely, after a very short rest, will be focused on continuing training for Ironman Arizona in November. Training has been challenging, but I have been reminded by a few close people in my life, that the rewards from training hard may only feel evident on the one or two days I'm specifically training for.... So, I had a good day of success last Sunday in completing my first triathlon, which was also my first 1/2 Ironman distance as well. To have completed that race in 4:54 and walked out basically feeling healthy and whole was verification that the support I have received from family, friends, loved ones, and the community has directly correlated to being able to train/compete at a higher level than I would otherwise be able.
There's a lot to do in the next month..... besides training, I have to learn the feel of riding on Cindy's Zipp wheelset that Roy sent last week - I'm looking forward to the increased MPH average that technology can provide.... unbelievably light wheels! To ride on Cindy's wheels will be an honor.

Brandywine Creek - Hilltop Loop
Training - 9 mile aerobic run
Nice run from the farm down along the Brandywine Creek, then over across Hilltop Road - a nice gravel road that starts with more than a mile long steep hill - a great place for future intervals. I picked up the pace the last 2 miles, just to feel good and find some rhythm. This felt like the first really humid, sticky night of summer, and it's already mid-August. It got fairly dark on my run as I ended just before 9:00pm.
I had a really long day with little to no sleep last night. While my run didn't fix everything, it was nice just run down a lane where White Tiger Lilies were in full bloom and shed an intoxicatingly sweet smell, then run along the water for a few miles, and back up a long hill through the woods, and home during twilight. Even if I don't feel better, it's nice to let those things hit my senses and know they are there.

Behind in Blogging and Training.....
Moving is done, unpacking will take a while, and hopefully throwing more things away and taking a trip to the dump will also happen ASAP. I don't buy things anymore, but somehow on every move I discover I have way too much crap.... how does this occur?! I took over 600 pounds of steel to the recycling facility and got paid for that... cool. I took 760 pounds to the Cherry Island Landfill and paid $22 to have that 'disposed.' Good progress, lightening the load. For my next move, I want to be able to fit whatever I have into a normal size moving truck. I think I can.
So, I'll just look at the last week of Moving as one big weight workout.... I got to bench press, and do countless squats. I surely got in a great back and abs workout in and my arms are nice and toned now.
I've been mildly to wildly upset at the lack of time I've had to train. My stress level has been really high and I feel pretty down about not having a more rigid training schedule in general. Hopefully within the next week or two I can pull things together. Let ya know....
